Imphal, November 17 2015: A team of 13 delegates of Manipur and Assam from the North East Federation of International Trade (NEFIT) was flagged off from the State capital by Chief Secretary O Nabakishore today. The team is to attend the 2015 BCIM (Bangladesh, China, India, Myanmar) Economic Corridor (Chengdu) Development Forum which is scheduled to be held from Nov 23 to 25 at Chengdu in Saichuan province of China.
The summit will be held under the theme 'Strengthen the Co-operation of Intercity Economy and Trade, Promote the Prosperity of the BCIM Economic Corridor' .

BCIM Economic Corridor comprises of four countries- Bangladesh, China, India, Myanmar which is a sub-regional organisation of Asian Nations aimed at greater integration of trade and investment between the member countries. The BCIM Economic Corridor is an initiative conceptualised for significant gains through sub-regional economic cooperation within the member countries.
The Chief Secretary commented that the business meet at Chengdu will be useful in promoting business opportunities of the area to the Chinese counterparts and by doing so there will be benefit for both sides. He added that it is high time for the North East region of India to provide good projects and create an environment to attract entrepreneurs from BCIM member countries.

The delegates will explore trade, business, investments and joint venture opportunities with their counterparts in Boashan and will meet businessmen and Government officials of the area, stated Asst. General Secy. of Manipur Chamber of Commerce and Industry Th Jotin in a brief interaction with media persons. He stated that NEFIT took up the initiative in conjunction with the 'Act East' policy of the Government of India to attract entrepreneurs from the private sector.
Opening of land routes connecting India to the East Asian Nations through North East India is very important for a land locked region. Opening up such routes will allow increase in trade activities between the BCIM Nations.

The 2015 BCIM Economic Corridor (Chengdu) Development Forum is sponsored by the Chengdu Municipal People's Government and organized by Chengdu Municipal Commission of Commerce. About 150 delegates from Governments, commercial chambers and enterprises of the four countries will gather to exchange economic and investment opportunities and resources.
