Dealing with H1N1 fear
- Hueiyen Lanpao Editorial :: March 11, 2015 -
With one confirmed case of Swine Flu (H1N1), authorities responsible for providing health services in the State have intensified surveillance so as to prevent the spread of the virus.
It may be recalled that the first case of swine flu was confirmed in Manipur on March 6 with HRL laboratories in Mumbai confirming the sample of a 35-year-old woman patient.
The woman was tested positive for H1N1 virus.
Though the patient has been kept in the isolation ward of a hospital in Imphal, there are reports that her condition was improving.
However, the news of two more persons who had been admitted in a hospital with complaints of high fever has further made health officials stay on their toes. It has been reported that the throat swabs of the two have been collected and sent to the Mumbai-based laboratory for further tests.
What needs is to be appreciated is the confidence of the health department in meeting with the impending challenge as it has claimed to have taken adequate measures to deal with an outbreak of Swine Flu.
It is said the State Government has opened isolation wards at Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences and Regional Institute of Medical Sciences in Imphal apart from opening surveillance cells in all nine districts of the State.
While proactive measures and claims can be lauded, the authorities should now see to it that no complaints come from patients with regard to availability of any recommended medicines for the control of H1N1.
The responsibility of the citizens should also be to strictly follow tips suggested by the health department.
What is of utmost importance now is to forge a perfect coordination between State Health officials and concerned citizens so that the fear of H1N1 virus also does not cause unnecessary panic across the State.
