The Department of Biotechnology, Govt. of India invites applications exclusively from the eight North Eastern States of India for setting up of Bioinformatics facilities to enable Teaching and R&D activities in Life Sciences and Biotechnology. Considering importance of bioinformatics for the growth of Life Sciences and Biotechnology, the department is planning to support bioinformatics facilities (BIF) at the institutions, Universities, accredited colleges which are located in North Eastern States of India. Through this scheme, DBT will provide a one time financial support upto Rs.20.00 Lakhs per facility for the establishment of BIF. The contingency support may be extended for the subsequent years based on assessment of performance of the facility at the end of the first year. The host institution has to provide: (a) Dedicated space for housing the Bioinformatics Facility (b) Air conditioning of the space, electricity and furniture (c) Creation and appointment on permanent basis of the post of IT manager at the level of Lecturer/Asst. Professor and (d) Administrative Support While evaluating proposals for funding the following criteria will be taken into consideration: 1. Only institutions located in the eight northeastern states of India are eligible to apply. 2. Institutions running postgraduate and above courses in Life Sciences and Biotechnology will be preferred. Institutions conducting B.Tech/BE in Life Sciences and Biotechnology will also be eligible . 3. The host institution would have to sign an MOU with DBT. (2) PROPOSED BUDGET FOR THE BIF 1. Computer and communication equipment 12.00 II OTHER EXPENSES 1. Manpower 2.0 2. DATABASE & JOURNELS - 0.5 3. TRAINING/ WORKSHOP - 1.0 4. INTERNET CONNECTION including Modems - 2.0 5. cONTINGENcies - 2.0 (Miscellaneous expenditure including site preparation, furniture and fixtures) 6. TRAVEL - 0.5 Sub Total – II = 8.00 Grant Total IA+IB+II = 20.0 Interested institutions may submit two copies of their proposals in the prescribed “Format" on or before 9th November 2007 to Dr. T.
