Cry of a Dying River - 2
Rajendra Kshetri *
I am no longer the river I was once
The river with oyster-laden sands
The river that was navigable
The river that symbolised the phenomenon of 'hi-honba'
The river with the picturesque sight of canoeing
Up against the stream from Thanga-Karang in Loktak
Upto the 'Thong-Nambonbi' in town
And rowing back home down the stream
What a scenic sight to the beholden eyes
Where have that Nambul, that rowable Nambul gone!
I am no longer the river I was once
The river distinct for its beautiful basins
The river that cradled Lamyanba Irawat
The river that inspired Kamal's 'Madhavi'
The river that was the cynosure of Imphalites
The river that delighted the locals
The past time phenomenon of 'Nga-Kaba' and 'NgaChaba'
The river that beckoned an array of women 'Een-Chingbis'
The river that caressed the 'Langban Tarpon' offerings
To the dear departed souls.
