Crackers bursting put security alert in Imphal
Nagaland Post | Imphal, Nov 2
Police in the state capital who were on high alert in connection with Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram’s visit Wednesday had a hard time when a powerful explosion was heard in the heart of Imphal city in the late afternoon.
Police were relaxed only after confirmation that it was bursting of fire crackers in the crowded Paona Bazar. The bursting of fire crackers was so loud that it can be heard by the people across the Paona Bazar on the western side of the Imphal Raj Bhavan. The bursting occurred around 4 pm, when the visiting Union Home minister was at the Raj Bhavan after returning from his tour in Senapati and Ukhrul with Chief Minister, O. Ibobi Singh.
On hearing the sound, thinking that it would be a bomb planted by militants, police on duty immediately rushed to the site and conducted a search in and around the Paona Bazar.
