Consultation Meeting on State Child Protection Policy

The Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights, (MCPCR) has started formulation of “State Child Protection Policy in collaboration with Manipur Alliance for Child Rights, (MACR) and Child Rights and You, (CRY)”. For the purpose of framing the policy, “One Day Consultation Meeting” organized by the MACR was held in the month of October, 2015 at Imphal.
In the meeting, chaired by the Chairperson of MCPCR, Shri. S. Saratkumar Sharma and other Child Rights activists have decided to include the following chapters in the Policy Document; Fundamental of Child Protection, Article of UN CRC, Legal Framework for Protection in India, Appropriate Standards of Behaviour for Employees/Staffs, Institutional Responsibilities and Complaint Mechanism, etc.
Representatives from Line Departments, Social Welfare, Police, Judiciary, Labour, Education, Urban Development, Health and Family Welfare, Public Relations, Law, NGO’s will be consulted. To examine the proposed State Policy, a State Level Committee will be formed with the representatives of the Line Departments. This State Policy will be prepared in accordance with the provision of National Child Policy 2013.
CRY is helping to depute services of consultant for preparation of the State Policy, Representatives of CRY, MACR and MCPCR have also held discussions with the Principal Secretary (SW), Manipur about the format of the State Policy and condition of children and their problem and other Government protocols.
He emphasized all the basic facilities to be provided to children along with Legal Provisions while preparing the Draft Policy. The Draft Policy will be ready during the middle of March, 2016.
