Cong : Scripting its own drawback : BJP delivers a point
- The Sangai Express Editorial :: September 1 2016 -
BJP 100, Cong 0. This is the score card that one can read into when seen in the backdrop of the botched recruitment test of police Constables conducted in 2013.
Cong 48, BJP 2. This is the number of MLAs in the current Assembly.
Come 2017 and the score card can be anything, but interesting to note that the BJP has been able to knock the wind out of the Congress Government in the current imbroglio.
The two BJP MLAs may have been remanded to custody till September 13 (However released on August 31), but in refusing to be bailed out, they have managed to steal the thunder from the Congress Government.
Not at all a good omen for the party which is in power for the third consecutive term.
And now with the 2017 Assembly election just a few months away, the question is, can the Congress really afford this ?
Remember the BJP is on a high after the resounding Lok Sabha election victory in 2014 and it has been on a smooth ride since then, the only draw back coming in the election to the Delhi Assembly.
Even in Delhi it was not the Congress which dealt the blow to the BJP but the Aam Admi Party (AAP).
Significant to note too that the BJP has already made inroads into the North East, dislodging the Congress in the Assembly election in Assam.
The political wind blowing across the country will obviously have an impact on the State too and it is surprising to see that the Congress does not seem aware of this reality.
Or else why would it give the perfect opportunity to the BJP to deliver a strong political statement at this juncture ?
The farce of the recruitment test conducted way back in 2013 will definitely have an impact on the upcoming Assembly election and ironically it is the Congress which has scripted this situation.
At the moment all eyes are on the BJP especially in the face of the fact that Union Minister of State for Home, Kiren Rijiju is in town.
A first hand report is what Rijiju will take back to Delhi and to be sure the 2013 police Constables recruitment test will provide it the right ammo to fire on the Congress in the run up to the Assembly election.
The two MLAs have been released after the State police withdrew the FIRs lodged against them, and this in a way is the State Government buckling under tremendous political pressure.
Round one has definitely gone to the BJP and ironically it is the Congress Government which has scripted the chapter of round one.
