Save Democracy Repeal AFSPA Group (SDRAG) and Concern Students from Manipur organized a condolence meeting of the prominent lawyer Mr. Mukul Sinha by 4pm at the campus of Delhi School of Economics, University of Delhi. In the condolence meeting, the participants had extended their respect and remembered what Mukul Sinha had done in his lifetime.
One minute silent tribute was given to him and to his courage. The meeting deeply discussed the issues he had fought – that were - fighting for the working class people and the politics of encounter in Manipur.
The meeting remembered the role he had fought against the six cases that were selected among the 1526 fake encounters in Manipur. He and his colleagues forced the encounter specialists of the Manipur Police Commandos and the members of the Indian armed forces to expose what they had committed the crime against the humanity in front of the committee members and as a result- the committee had to conclude that all the six cases were found as not real encounters. The meeting had praised Mukul Sinha that he did not take any money for the cases he fought in Manipur and most of the cases he fought for working class people.
Mukul Sinha was born at Cullcutta in1951. In 1973, he had shifted to Ahamadabad to join in the Physical Research Laboratory (PRL). He initiated to form Union in Science during he stayed in PRL. He decided to leave this laboratory and studied law to fight and to raise voices for the helpless workers and downtrodden people. He fought for 16 years as an independent member in the Nanabati Commission.
He single handedly stood against the Government of Gujarat against the fake encounters in Gujarat. He had extended his support to the fight of the oppressed people in Manipur as in 2013; he was one of the most important prominent lawyers who did most of the cross –examination of the witnesses against the Manipur Police Commandos and members of the Indian armed forces who were responsible to kill 1526 in extra judicial killing that were compiled by the EEFAM and HRA.
It was expressed that the people of Manipur will remember Mr. Mukul Sinha for what he did and stood for the oppressed people in Manipur in his life time and it would not let down in the history of people’s struggle. Let his soul live in peace!
