Condemned assault of newspaper hawker by bandh supporters

The Editors' Guild, Manipur (EGM) and All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) have strongly condemned the assault of a newspaper hawker by bandh supporters while delivering newspapers today at about 4.30 am at Langthabal Phurama-khong.
The assaulted hawker has been identified as Khuman-them Achouba (41) of Ningombam Awang Leikai.
In a statement EGM and AMWJU said that Achouba was stopped and assaulted by supporters of the bandh called by the All Manipur DPC Completed Candidate of Police Constable Male-2013 .
Distribution of newspapers is an essential part of the media, said EGM and added that delivering the papers is disseminating information to the public.
The scribe bodies also urged the office bearers of the said organisation to advise their supporters not to harass hawkers of any member of the media fraternity.
