Selfish Personnel Freedom Is Secondary To Social Responsibility Comment on "Status of Manipuris in Delhi" |
By: KB Mangang * |
I am very happy to see some constructive arguments recently in e-pao. I appreciate all writers regardless of their gender. This norm should continue because this will give us an opportunity to find out the truth. In fact our society lacks argumentative discussion. We use strike, bandh, blockade, arson etc. frequently instead of argumentative discussion. At the same time we should not indulge in blaming each other. That is not a sign of good discussion. What I am saying is not the absolute truth. It is just one of the opinions. If it is right everybody must accept it and if it is wrong I must correct it. I appreciate Mr. Robindro for initiating this argument although I have some reservations about his points. He should have given his views as an opinion for the platform of discussion instead of giving authoritative message. Our state has more authority than a responsible citizen that is why there are lots of chaotic situations. Mr. Robindro and Mr. Kamei are right for pointing out that there are racial biases, harassments against the people of North East. This is a fact and everybody knows it. Indian army is fighting insurgents in our region by applying barbaric undemocratic laws like AFSPA not to get out of Indian union. At the same time they are treating us like a foreigner by calling us Chingkis, Nepali, etc. Isn't it a racial bias? This is not about a few corrupted mainland Indian. Most Indian think in this way. If some people feels that calling mainland Indian as Meiyang is a racist remark, can he/she defends us from being targeted as Chingkis or Nepali. I know two wrongs can't make a right. What I meant is that things should be seen in their right perspectives. I am not a racist like Hitler. I don't think the following poem was written by our forefather with racist instinct. It was a gift to us so as to aware of the reality and to handle it tactfully and we have to remember it because we have to stay with them. The poem is: KWAK KWAk..... Getting married of a North East girl to a mainland Indian is no problem at all if the marriage is a successful one. It is more beneficial to us. One day she will be a mother of some maindland Indian and she will surely teach her children to love us. If it is not a successful one, can you think of the consequences of it? Everybody should hope for the best but they should not forget to prepare for the worse also. The worse part is that they think North East girl are easily available not about the particular person. This is a wrong perception and you know it and I know it. But what else can we do? Can we change their mindset or can we ignore them at all? We can't change their mindset. Even a great man like Gandhi can not change their mindset. Instead of thinking Abdulla beat Ramohan, they think that Muslim beat a Hindu and arouse all Hindu to fight against Muslim or vice versa. That is the origin of all reasons to bifurcate Indian subcontinent into two nations. What I meant is that we can't change somebody's mindset overnight. Then we should not indulge in doubtful activities like drugs, living together without getting married, at least outside our state, which they use to look with disdain. The fact that they don't care about us do not need a proof again. I am telling the following story which I have experienced myself. Last year (2005) in a news programme of popular English news channel NDTV, I watch news coverage of India International Trade fair. The journalist asked some question to a person about what he has just seen from the Manipur and Nagaland stalls. The person spoke good English and dressed well. He must be a well educated Indian. What was his answer is a shocking one. He told to the journalist that "after seeing these stalls I came to know that there is a state called Manipur in India". I don't need to explain more about this statement. It is self explanatory and we are enough intelligent to understand it. This was happened just after when the country's media was busy covering of Manorama rape case and AFSPA in Manipur. I find very interesting the following few lines. I am not against any person or any group of people. I am just giving some views about the discussion: "Most students go away from home at such a stage, when they are growing up physically and mentally, sinking into the world of knowledge and adventure. It is no harm at all in loving someone, liking someone and what sexual consequences followed is just something natural". From the above few lines we can conclude that we are coming out of our home because of failure of education machinery and insurgency problem in our state. This is a true statement and I agree with it and everybody will agree with it. At same time if they came out from our home which they leave because its education is substandard, then those who came out from the state are supposed to have a better education and consequently they must have a better reasoning power to find out what is right and what is wrong. Then they must start thinking to solve those problems which are responsible for throwing them out of home. This should be the main purpose of our education otherwise we will be lagging behind the countries of developed world. They must be the role model of our future generation. What they do is the one deserved to be followed by the lovely and innocent brothers and sisters of KANGLEIPAK(Manipur). Do you*** know if you do something wrong the message that you are sending to our young brothers and sisters? They are not well educated like you. If you really love our state or people of our region (North East) at least you must think about them. If you have a heart to love someone, I think there is nothing wrong to love them because they need your love. Yes everybody knows that our state is suffering from AIDS menace. In this context the phrase "sexual consequences followed is just something natural" is vacuously wrong. Because the selfish personnel freedom is secondary to social responsibility otherwise we will go back to the age of barbarism where everybody is free to do whatever they want to do (an age where no rule of laws and kings). Let us contribute to these constructive arguments. Thanks to everybody who wrote and who read it. I would be thankful to you if you kindly point out some mistake in it. *** 'here' you doesn't meant the writer.
