Come Back, Please
- Deep from the Soul -
K. Radhakumar *
Here in this place
Some thirty five years ago
I woke up one day just before dawn
And saw the dawn of all the dawns
Come to life
And she painted the world for me.
What a dawn!
A world of colours and dramatic sunrise!
Beauty stretched out and kissed the horizon.
I never knew
Crows crowed pleasantly at dawn.
I remembered
The girl who was the love of my life
All my dreams
All my hopes
At that moment.
I struggled to write
But words failed me;
My pen would not write
And I could not even find the words
To thank my dawn.
NOW!
Gone are the things close to my heart;
All my dreams,
All my hopes,
It is all gone.
I am married to a foreigner
Who follows a different religion .
We do not speak the same tongue.
Everyday I try speaking to her
In her native tongue, and yet
She is the most beautiful woman in the world.
We are living in a house
Not just as I have imagined it,
And yet this is one of the most beautiful houses
Ever built by the lake
With green hills in the background.
She is a good wife.
She is
My wife is
Embracing a long history of this life
And hopes of the next.
What was then is now dead,
What was not then is now alive and kicking;
This is the wonder of all the wonders.
Reality!
The only reality is the present moment.
Yes, the present moment.
What of it?
With time
The drama will take on
An unreal, almost nightmarish quality
And the actors look absurd.
The music of the dawn!
My visage my voice
Will be forgotten soon after my death
And the song of the crows will die away.
