Christmas In The Air
Shongminthang Haokip *
Month of ecstasy begin
When November passed unfurling
The jolly month of Merry Christmas
The world resumes the annual cheer
Spirits high b'neath a Winter sky
Hearts kindle to welcome Him,
The Messiah.
Houses are decorated and light up
With a star hanging over the gate
Like a Morning star which the
Magi'd followed to the city
Of Bethlehem, the Nativity.
Postcard of "Merry Christmas and
Happy New Year glided
To every door from far and near
Exchange gifts and bouquet with
Near and dear ones to spread joys
Even the sorrows and sufferings
Dry up its tears in mirth
Widow's eyes glisten her face
Recollecting the years of together'd
While children smirk looking their
New clothes between her mother knees
And sings Christmas hymn o'er by heart.
The music of the country bells
Ringing in the Christmas eve
Gurgle to the far uphill with a merry peals
Wh're the winter birds exalted in exhilaration.
Youngsters' clothes in winter vogue
Trundling loudspeaker on the street by dancing
And singing Christmas carol in vivacity
Grandpa'd daydream the then days
Neighbors indulge in blarney chat
Approaching candidly, people customarily
Greet with a bubbly smile-
"Glad Christmas and prosperous New Year!"
By shaking hands and embracing
To all the morning passer by
And keeping Christmas in the skies.
It's time to join Seraphim's in praising-
"Glory to God in the highest,
and on earth peace to men on whom
his favor rest".
