Christmas Day - 2009
Vermini Sanasam *
When at this season of the year, we wish to our friends "a Merry Christmas", it is essential to realise that true merriment of the heart is contingent upon the recognition of the truth that Christ was born in Bethlehem for our salvation.
The christian is to engage in Spiritual merriment as he thinks upon the fact that, through the redemption, he becomes a child of God's family.
Jesus Christ was born on Christmas day. To christians the joy of Christmas is not limited to His birth. It is built even more on the triumph of His death and resurrection that gave meaning to His birth.
In the Bible we have found that, "when the right time come. God sent His son". Galation 4:4.
And again Isaiah 9:6,7, "For unto us a child is born and His name shall be called, Wonderful, Counsellor, the Mighty God, the Everlasting Father, the Prince of peace. His royal power will continue to grow, His kingdom will always be at peace. He will rule as king David's successor, basing his power on right and justice from now until the end of time. The Lord Almighty is determined to do all this".
Now again, the Bible says, in Icorianthian 1:9, "God is the one who invited you into this wonderful friendship with His son Jesus Christ our Lord". God's own Son was the only personality in the universe who had the capacity to bear in His own body the sins of the world. Only God's Son was infinite and thus able to die for all.
Bethlehem's manger crib become the link that bound a lost world to a loving God. From that manger came a man who not only taught us a new relationship with our Creator.
He was born into a world as jumbled and riddled with injustice as yours but he changed it by changing people. No matter what sins you have committed or, how terrible, dirty or shameful it may be, God loves you.
This love of God is immeasurable, unmistakable and unending. So the Bible says, John 3:16, "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life".
On this Christmas day God invites everyone to receive His Son in our heart and those who received Jesus Christ as his or her personal saviour will have eternal salvation.
Merry Christmas & God bless you all.
