Mao Dance at Children Workshop on Manipuri Dance on January 23 2017
One month long Children Workshop on Manipuri Dance conducted by Lianda Folk and Classical Academy, Nagamapal Soram Leirak, Imphal was concluded yesterday with the performance of their productions.
The closing function of the workshop was held at Progressive Artistes Laboratory, Lamboikhongangkhong, Imphal with Shri S. Thanil Singh, Padmashree and Ex-Pradhan Guru, Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy as Chief Guest; Shri N. Tiken Singh, Director, PAL and State Member NEZCC as President and Shri Rajamani Ayekpam, Theatre Critic, Writer as Guest of Honour.
The workshop’s productions were performed during the closing function which includes Guru Bandana (Goup Song), Maibi Jagoi (Group Dance), Leima Thougal Jagoi (Group Dance), Krishna Abhisar (Recital), Mao Dance Group Dance), Kom Dance (Group Dance), Nila Kamala (Recital), Dasa Avatar (Recital), Chali Jagoi (Group Dance). The workshop was conducted under the sponsorship of Sangeet Natak Akademy.
Speaking on the occasion, Guru Thanil stated that childhood is best period to mould a child and Lianda Academy has done a noble deed for moulding children in a proper way. He also lauded the activities of the Academy in promoting rich forms of dance & music of Manipur.
A. Raseswori Devi, Director of the Workshop said,”Tradition dies once we stop practising. Our art forms contain many useful elements of education.” He further added, “The workshop is a part of education that tries to explore the different potentials and talents of children.”
The Academy has exposed the beautiful rhytms of Manipuri Classical and Folk dances at many national and international stages like Khajuraho Festival, Lok Tarang Festival, Octave Festival, International Cultural mart, Indian Cultural Evening at Mandalay, Surin International Festival of Folklore, Congo Folk Fetival.
