Changed into cats
Kalenjao Konthoujam *
The tigers were changed into cats,
Sent to stay among the people,
To be welcomed by the people,
Who thought their land had been infested with rats.
The people were glad
(They thought they were pestered with rats).
But the tigers kicked and broke into pieces
The little pot of mild,
The poor mother placed by the fire,
To heat up for her child,
O, what a wretched plight!
The poor mother, famished and ultimately drying out,
Her child clinging to her bosom...
O, how could she pass this dark stormy night?
