Celebrating North East-The Mega Fest held in Delhi to showcase North East India’s talents to the world
Celebrating North East-The Mega Fest - a two days festival comprising of Fashion shows, Cultural program and Exhibitions of Handloom, Handicrafts, Jute, MSME sector of the North East Region took place at DLF PLACE , Saket New Delhi recently.
The aim of the festival was to create an interaction of ideas, provide an international standard marketing forum and a unique platform to showcase NE India’s textiles and artisans who have come with their handlooms, Jute, Khadi, Assam Silk products.
The leading institute of Assam, North East Institute of Fashion Technology (NEIFT) organized Celebrating North East from 4th to 5th December 2015, which was supported by Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Textiles, Ministry of AYUSH, Ministry of Youth affairs and Sports, Sangeet Natal Akademi etc.

Day one of Celebrating North East witnessed Four fashion shows highlighting Textiles from the North East with Ensemble by designers Arita Kayshab (Assam), Vianney Nongrum (Meghalaya), Bonney Darrang (Arunachal Pradesh) and Robert Naorem (Manipur). The inaugural performance of the festival witnessed various visiting cultural artists performing Bihu, Mishing, Bodo, Rava etc community Dances and rock band from Manipur .
Day Two of Celebrating North East started with Cultural performances depicting various dance forms of the region alongwith rock music performances. One witnessed Five fashion shows by designers Manimala Mahanta Ahmed (Assam), Ayn Longkumer (Nagaland) Sofiur Rahman (Assam), Pallavi Deka (Assam) and Charlee Lalthlenmawia (Mizoram).
The Collections of the designers floored the audience of Delhi .The 100 ft long Ramp and majestic Sets witnessed 26 Models sashay down with poise and confidence and many well known models of NER got an opportunity to walk with International and National Models .
Delhi Fashion connoisseurs rarely gets an opportunity to witness talented designers from NER who created kaleidoscopic magic in psychedelic coloured weaved textiles and crafts of the rich traditional design methodology of NER.
Mr Vikram Rai Medhi, Event Director & CEO NEIFT said, “These stalls being erected at DLF PLACE SAKRT showcased and created a mini North East for cross section of the society of Delhi and this have created an element of positive awareness and curiosity of our region which will thereby also play a role in the development in the Tourism sector...and these beautiful fashion collections of our designers have created a huge impact about NER’s textiles in the Fashion World of the Capital.”
