Call to demarcate valley area
The Telegraph | Robert Sapam | Imphal, June 16
The Manipur Mountaineering and Trekking Association has urged chief minister N. Biren Singh to assess and demarcate the boundary between Manipur and Nagaland in Dzuko Valley and probe the "detention" of its team by locals on World Environment Day.
In a memorandum to the chief minister, the association said the team was allegedly detained for eight hours near Vishwema by activists of Southern Angami Youth Organisation while returning after carrying out the cleaning drive. It said the team members were subjected to mental and physical agony and were not allowed to use their mobile phones. Some members of the associationwere allegedly made to sign a pre-written statement that the Dzuko Valley traditionally belongs to Southern Angamis.
