The Centre for Organisation Research and Education (CORE) strongly condemns the twin bomb blast at Alu Gali in Thangal Bazar, Imphal on the festive day of Diwali, a
widely celebrated religious festival for those adhering to the Hindu faith.
CORE finds it extremely difficult to comprehend what the objective of this wanton violence could be. There is no space for the crime of terrorism in any society, whether it is state-sponsored or perpetrated by non-state actors. The state government has a serious obligation to ensure that citizens are ensured a secure and safe environment in both public and private spaces. The right to freedom of religion is a fundamental right protected by the Constitution of India.
Moreover, citizens have a fundamental duty to promote harmony and the spirit of common brotherhood amongst all the people of India transcending
religious, linguistic and regional or sectional diversities.
CORE strongly urges the State government of Manipur, especially the Home Department, to immediately institute transparent, independent commission of inquiry
within a reasonable time and book those found guilty according to law. The state should provide interim relief in the form of an ex gratia support or compensate under the
Victims Compensation Fund, as notified on 1st August 2011 under No. 4/14(R-14)/2010-H(Reh), to all those injured by the blasts.
CORE also conveys sincere wishes to injured individuals for a speedy recovery.
