CBSE warns against sale of cigarettes near schools
Times of India | TNN | Jan 21, 2015, 05.37 AM IST
Concerned over the practice of selling cigarette and tobacco products near school campuses, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has made it mandatory for all affiliated schools to display warnings against tobacco sales in their vicinity. It has directed the schools not to allow students to participate in events sponsored by tobacco companies.
In its latest order issued to all heads of the institutions affiliated to it this month, CBSE insisted on putting up display boards at the entrance, outside the boundary walls of schools, at the receptions, cafeterias and other prominent places. The display board at the entrance would come with a warning: "sale of cigarettes and other tobacco products in an area within the 100-metre radius of any educational institution is a punishable offence".
