ACTIVISTS TAKEN INTO CUSTODY! LOCATION STILL NOT KNOWN!
NEFIS HAILS CAA AND NRC EXCLUSIONARY AND DISCRIMINATORY!!
Today activists of North-East Forum for International Solidarity (NEFIS) gathered to register their protest with the Chief Minister of Manipur on the question of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and NRC were arrested late in the evening. Activists were peacefully marching towards CM resident when they were taken into custody, there present where about are still unknown.
NEFIS strongly believes that the new Act and NRC is an exclusionary and highly discriminatory piece of legislation and process.
Activists argued that these recent measures of the current government are essentially questionable because the local communities in the North-East were not consulted in any way.
NEFIS also condemns the police crackdown on peaceful protests that are breaking out against CAA and NRC across universities.
