Blockade dampens Durga Puja spirit in Imphal
Times of India | TNN | Oct 2, 2011, 09.37AM IST
Blockade of key supply routes in Manipur has dampened the Durga puja spirit in the state capital. Even as chief minister Okarm Ibobi Singh has asked Imphal traders to sell essential commodities at normal rates fixed prior to the ongoing two-month economic blockade, due to the steep price hike of commodities triggered by the blockade on National Highways 39, 53 and 150, most of the puja committees in Imphal are going low key in the five-day festival, beginning Monday.
s "Because of the skyrocketing prices we won't be able to celebrate the festival in a big manner. We have incurred almost double the expenses as compared to last year in setting up laishang (pandal) and mandap this year," said Sanjay Sharma, member of a puja committee in Imphal.
