Bid to create awareness about draconian provisions of AFSPA
The Hindu | Madhur Tankha | May 29, 2013
After co-writing a book with the iron lady from Manipur, documentary filmmaker Minnie Vaid is now planning to make a film on the uphill struggle of Irom Sharmila to make the Union Government consider repealing the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act.
Minnie says the Union Government has not taken Sharmila, on a hunger strike for the past 13 years, seriously either in the past or now. “It is an ongoing tragedy that a person who is on a peaceful satyagraha is not even approached by any Government emissary for a dialogue or a discussion on her demands. Will they just look the other way as years continue to go by? Isn’t she entitled to her fundamental right to live?”
