'Baseless allegations against Congress' : Nagaland Congress
02nd June 2020
In the midst of pandemic situation, NDPP has shockingly come up with wild allegations of blaming Congress govt’s of the past for the present state of poor infrastructure, conveniently forgetting that all major infrastructures were only created during Congress time. 17 plus years is more than enough for regional parties to develop the state but they have miserably failed.
NDPP must also remember that their party leader & CM, Mr Neiphiu Rio was part of 3 Congress govt’s holding crucial portfolios of PWD and Home and therefore their allegations against Congress govt of the past is being laid at the doorstep of Mr Rio himself.
On tackling pandemic situation, the govt of Nagaland established COVID War Room only after Lockdown 1.0 got over on 14th April and now after the end of Lockdown 4.0, the state govt has constituted a High Powered Committee replacing numerous committees that were all pulling in different directions. This shows the total failure of PDA govt and we therefore advise the NDPP to concentrate on course correction of their govt rather than level baseless allegations against Congress or some individual who showed them the mirror of truth.
Chief Minister Mr Neiphiu Rio has announced that a ‘strategy group’ has been set up to build the state economy. This may sound good, but having seen massive misgovernance for much of the past 17 years under his leadership, the only cheerleaders will be his coterie and cronies anticipating another golden opportunity out of disaster. We only hope that the strategy group is not composed of the same people who have been colluding with Mr Rio to make a mockery of governance in all spheres.
A grave socio-economic problem is emerging in the form of thousands of returnees coming from different cities of India, after suffering tremendously during lockdown period owing to job losses, racial abuses, hunger and being evicted as tenants. Ironically, the same govt used to trumpet about its achievement on sending thousands of our young people outside the state to earn livelihood.
In connivance with some outside training institutes and placement agencies, state govt had signed numerous MoUs and dispatched our people without bothering to check the antecedents of those agencies or progress of our people. The govt has totally failed on this front.
We also have homegrown HR/Placement agencies, some of whom under the patronage of the state govt have been functioning without any accountability so far. Many of these agencies in addition to govt’s largesse have been profiteering by even taking certain amount of percentage cut from the monthly salary of those workers sent through them.
Shockingly, when lockdown happened, many HR/Placement agencies and recruiting agents who were responsible for sending our people outside the state simply went incognito and left the poor workers to fend for themselves. Time has come for strong action against those who profiteered while jeopardizing the lives of our people.
