BJP to stake claim in Manipur
- Party submits 32-MLA list
The Telegraph | Khelen Thokchom | Imphal, March 12:
The BJP tonight submitted a list of 32 legislators to Manipur governor Najma Heptulla, claiming the support of 11 other MLAs - four of NPF, four NPP, one LJP, one Independent and one TMC. The BJP legislators will elect a leader tomorrow and stake claim to form the next government in Manipur.
The Congress, which is trying to form the government for the fourth consecutive term, secured 28 seats in the Assembly poll results declared yesterday, and the BJP followed with 21, both short of the majority mark of 31.
The BJP's general secretary, Ram Madhav, claimed here today that the NPP and the LJP had extended support to the BJP to form the government in the state. The NPF had already declared support for the BJP.
