Autumn Musings
K. Radhakumar *
My muse has deserted me
And the whole world seems cursed.
Where are you?
Come on!
I don't have much time.
Hurry up, please!
The dead will be back any moment now
For I can smell
Autumn coming in the evening air,
I have seen autumn colours
In the leaves
That dance in the breeze –
Words fail me.
Where are you?
Wild pigeons are seen,
The sound of cooing heard.
Ah! This is not the sound of cooing
Of hungry wild pigeons;
This is the cooing of the dead
Homecoming once in a year
To meet the living
Kith and Kin
Left behind in this world.
It is early evening,
Yet shapes move around
And these are not ghostly shapes.
I have started to dream beautiful dreams
And these beautiful dreams
Are pregnant with truth.
These are words of truth
From the depths of life!
The early autumn beggars description.
My muse!
Do not desert me, please
And give me the tongue
To communicate with the dead.
