Attack sparks fuel crisis fear
The Telegraph | Khelen Thokchom | Imphal, May 1:
The suspension of tanker services from today triggered the panic buying of fuel, particularly petrol, overcrowding fuel pumps in and around the city. The transporters were angered after armed persons attacked a convoy of tankers along the Imphal-Dimapur road yesterday. Three drivers were injured in the incident.
The tanker drivers took out a rally here today, demanding safe passage for their convoys. No decision has been taken on resuming services so far.
Unknown persons fired at a convoy of fully-loaded oil tankers while it was moving towards Imphal from Assam not very far from Kangpokpi town of Kangpokpi district, nearly 44km from Imphal along National Highway 2 (the Imphal-Dimapur road).
