At large in Khaplang base, stories unfold

It was more than a month after we crossed surreptitiously into Myanmar in end-2011 when I first caught a glimpse of S.S. Khaplang. He was dressed in a light brown shirt, longyi and a black jacket talking to senior colleagues. He did not seem to have changed much from the photographs I had seen about a decade ago. He was lean like a typical Naga but unlike the image in my mind, he appeared to be a lively, amiable man. There was a hearing aid dangling from his right ear and I could hear the others speak to him in a loud tone and repeating their statements.
