Assam Rifles makes earnest effort to maintain peace in Imphal Valley

In view of the enhanced threat perception as a run up to the Republic Day and to thwart the nefarious designs of the various UG groups who have given calls to boycott the Republic Day and are likely to indulge in violent activities to cause disruption during Republic Day celebrations, numerous measures have been taken by all sectors and units under the aegis of IGAR (South) in close coordination with local intelligence agencies and Manipur Police to deny the UG groups free movement and to ensure peace in the valley.
Several area sanitisation operations, area domination patrols (ADP) and mobile vehicle check post (MVCP) have been established to curb the free movement of the UGs. Assam Rifles has been instrumental in effective domination of all the National Highways emerging from Imphal town for safe and unhindered movement of vehicles.
Security meets have been held at all Company Operating Bases (COBs) of the units of the of IGAR South spread all over the state,which were attended by the village headmen, Meira Paibis, Police representatives and other stakeholders of the area.
The aim of security meets was to sensitise the local populace about the envisaged threat and ensure collective participation of all to ensure security in the respective areas. Increased domination of the Assam Rifles in the Imphal valley has resulted in numerous apprehensions of cadres/ OGWs and several other individuals involved in illegal activities including extortion. The sealing of India- Myanmar border to check movement of underground cadres has paid rich dividends.
Of special note is the huge recovery of weapons and other warlike stores along with live ammunition/ grenades in the area North East of Andro on 23 Jan. On the same day, an remotely controlled IED was recovered near Aishi Vill in 31 AR subsequently destroyed by the BD team thereby preventing loss of civilian life.
In another major achievement on 24 Jan an IED was recovered by alert troops of Assam Rifles along Imphal-Moreh road (NH 102) near Wangjing averting a major tragedy. The enhanced security measures taken in Moreh lead to apprehension of an individual with 02 hand grenades.
Being responsible for a large part of the state including Imphal city, Sectors & units under the aegeis of IGAR (South) have been proactive, working tirelessly with an earnest endeavour to maintain peace in the valley and thwart the nefarious design of various UG groups in the run up to the Republic Day celebrations.
