Assam NGO to observe Sharmila Day on Nov 2
Assam Tribune | Newmai News, Imphal, Oct 18
A leading NGO of Assam will be observing November 2, the day when Sharmila began her hunger strike movement against AFSPA, as ‘Sharmila Day’. Sharmila will complete 11 years of fasting on that day.
This was announced by Dr Dilip Bora, Chairman, People’s Forum of Democracy ( PFD), a civil society organisation based in Assam while speaking to reporters at the office of the Human Rights Alert here on Saturday. A team of three members of the organisation is here to meet Sharmila.
“It is really unfortunate that the Government of Manipur has imposed restrictions in meeting with Sharmila, who is an iconic figure of the North East”, Bora lamented.
