Army celebrates Ningol Chak-kouba with a difference
Times of India | TNN | Oct 31, 2011, 08.23AM IST
Peronnel of 33 Assam Rifles, under the aegis of the Army's Red Shield Division, organized a unique Ningol Chak-kouba celebration at their Bishnupur camp on Sunday with about sixty AIDS-affected women and children from the district.
The state festival was, however, celebrated on Friday in which thousands of Manipuri Ningols (women), especially the married ones, visited their parent's homes with sweets and fruits and enjoyed traditional fish dishes along with their siblings.
With blessings and gifts from their parents and brothers, the Ningols returned home with gaiety.
"Nearly 60 AIDS-affected women and children of Bishnupur district were invited for the celebrations to convey the sensitivity and empathy of the security forces towards them," a defence statement said.
