SHRI ARIBAM SYAM SHARMA : Akademi fellow
A multifaceted and noted cultural personality, Shri Aribam Syam Sharma was bom in 1936 at Thangmeiband Lourungpurel Leikai, Imphal.
Best known for his achievements in the field of music and cinema, he is one of the few exponents of Rabindra Sangeet besides being a distinguished artiste of Hindustani Classical Music.
Having received his first lessons in Hindustani Classical Music from his late gurus Lamabam Kunio and Mutum Modhu, the innate talents in him blossomed into a matured artiste after he completed Sangeet Visharad from Government Music College, Imphal.
Known for his chaste, sincere and soulful renderings, his music presented a fine blend of virtuousness and melody that establishes an instant rapport with the listeners.
He was also one of the first AIR, Imphal approved artistes, Shri Syam Sharma's passion and contribution to music can also be gauged from the fact that he was one of the founder-members of popular music organisations, Amateur Artiste Association and Roop Rag.
His love for creative art also manifests in theatre and cinema, a realm in which he has achieved international acclamations.
He has earlier been honoured with Padmashree by Government of India, Sangeet Ratna by Manipuri Sahitya Parishad. Litetime Achievement Award by AMMIK, Nongmaithem Pahari Lifetime Achievement Award and H. Nilamani Memorial Award by Rupmahal Theatre.
