Are you satisfied with the planning and performance of Hornbill festival 2011?
Morung Express | December 11, 2011
Some of those who voted YES had this to say:
* The Hornbill festival can become a festival for Nagas to really shine and bring out the best of their cultural and traditional heritage. The Hornbill festival can actually do wonders. It can be the uniting factor in bringing all Nagas together to participate in this grand festival. It is surprising that the NPF government has so far not invited Nagas from Myanmar, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and Assam to come and be part of the Hornbill festival as Naga brothers. Rio has spoken many times of emotional integration, but what about cultural integration also. The Hornbill festival can be a platform for cultural integration.
Some of those who voted NO had this to say:
NOT anymore - the festival was started to promote & preserve our Culture but now its more of promoting foreign culture & life style. When the govt doesn't encourage our cultural, how can we preserve & promote it? Tourist comes only to see our culture. The govt. spends more of the fund/money on the modernized programs with big prize money like Rock concerts, fashion show, car rally and all useless hi fi events. So who would want to dress up in traditional attire stand, sing or dance whole day in Kisama for a 100-300 bucks a day or less or even non in the cold winter? There should be competition of cultural songs, sports & dances with the best prize money during the festival, if NOT after few years Kisama will be filled with Korean, thais, japs, Americans etc. There should be a good Selection Board so that the best group/individual are selected to host the various programs of the Hornbill event. At present most of the organisers are selected only through favoritism which is the main cause of the event getting more bored and more wastage of fund.
