Appeal for exemption of educational institutions
Date - 30th August 2017
Even as we appreciate the relentless efforts of JACATB in protection of tribal rights and interests, particularly for its determined and victorious fight against the 3 anti-tribal bills, the Thadou Students’ Association is concerned that there has been a proposal for closing of all educational institutions on 31st August, 2017 (Thursday) in Churachandpur district on account of observance of historic day at Tribal Martyrs Park, Mata Dam, Lamka and also on the day of the proposed visit of Hon’ble Chief Minister to Churachandpur.
In this regard, the Thadou Students’ Association would like to lay down few points for your kind consideration:-
1. That, shut-down of educational institutions in itself is not a sign of paying homage to the tribal martyrs and disadvantageous to students. This will not educate the students about Anti-tribal bills and their consequences.
2. That, students can pay homage for 5/10 minutes in their respective institutions wherein briefing of the Anti-tribal bills can be held in a productive manner.
3. That, the programme can be joined by the students after the classes as the programme will only begin by 4 pm.
4. That, the Government of Manipur in its letter No. 24/1/1-2/07-DE(S)Vol-III dated the 19th August, 2017 issued an appeal notice for the general public that students shall not participate in activity unrelated with the schools.
In view of the above circumstances and students’ career and putting education as a top priority, providing maximum opportunity to students for their academic excellence, the Thadou Students’ Association would like to urge the JACATB to revoke their earlier notification and allow educational establishments to open on the day and students to attend the function after school.
We hope that this will encourage the student community to learn about the cause the tribal martyrs have laid their life for in a big and positive way while not missing their regular classes at school.
