Another plea to fight army act (AFSPA)

On the 25th anniversary of the raid on Manipur’s Oinam village by the Assam Rifles, the stage is set to strengthen the campaign against the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act as the army continues to oppose even an amendment to it.
Kamal Mitra Chenoy, professor and chair at the Centre for Comparative Politics and Political Theory, School of International Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, said at the programme, “India has signed and ratified the international covenant on human rights which does not allow enforcement of any emergency law without a six month notice nor a ‘shoot to kill’ order with a provision for immunity.”
