The annual question at this time of the year : After Class XII what ?
- The Sangai Express Editorial :: May 03 2016 -
After Class X what ? After Class XII what ?
Questions which must have started dogging the minds of anxious parents, guardians, elders and of course the young students.
In a few days from now, the results of the Class X and Class XII board exams will be announced and while some will come out with flying colours a greater lot of them will definitely fall in the realm of the average.
And it is the parents of the average students who will be hard pressed to think what subjects their children should take up after the Class X exams.
For parents whose children have appeared for the Class XII exams it will be a question of whether their children have it in them to qualify for the choicest professional courses such as medical and engineering or whether it would be more prudent to let them go in for degree courses such as BSc.
This is for students who took up Science in their plus 2 level.
For Commerce and Arts students, the prospect of getting admission into a professional course straight after the plus 2 exams may be narrow but remember some universities have already launched five year programmes in MBA, such as the IIM, Indore and the five year LLB course, as in Bangalore and Pune.
For those who cannot get into the professional courses, it is then the three year degree course at the college level.
Choices are there, but the choice can be the first stepping stone to the success of the young students.
This is where parents and the students need to be clear on where their strength lies. Playing to one’s strength is then the mantra for success in one’s life.
For students who have appeared for the Class X board exams, the choice then is about choosing the stream which best suits them.
Not necessary that all bright students should compulsorily opt for Science and not necessary that Commerce and Arts are for students who have not done that well in the Class X board exams.
This is where everyone need to seriously study the strength and aptitude of the young students.
As always, once the Class XII exam results are announced, thousands of young students will make a beeline for higher studies in other parts of the country.
As repeated many times in this column, this may not be a problem for parents who are well off but not all parents are moneyed enough to send their children outside.
However situation is such that many parents will go the extra mile to ensure that they manage to send their children outside, financially crippling them.
It is this which merits some serious thoughts on the part of the Government and the people alike.
The reasons why numerous students feel compelled to go outside for their higher studies need not be elaborated here and it is disturbing to note that this is the reality.
A more than enough indication that Manipur is yet to become a place which offers the right ambience to the young students to pursue their studies without hindrance.
Time to think over this seriously.
