Award of the Post-Doctoral Fellowship under the Project
"Youth in India: Situation and Needs Study" at IIPS funded
by Packard & MacArthur Foundation.
Background:
The Youth Study has committed itself to build academic capacity to carry out research related to youth’s sexual and reproductive
health matters and hence has proposed to offer three Post Doctoral Fellowships. The fellowship proposed is for one year
duration and the selected candidate is expected to work on data already collected under the project. In order to supplement his/her analysis, candidate may revisit selected area of the project with prior approval of the coordinator, if needed.
Eligibility:
The candidate must have a doctorate degree in any subject related to population studies with focus on sexual and reproductive health matters of the youth. The preference will be given to those who have published research work on related topic. The upper age
limit is 35 years as on November 30, 2007. Age relaxation may be given to suitable candidate but not beyond age 45 years.

Procedure for Application and Selection:
The candidates fulfilling the eligibility criteria are required to apply to "The Coordinator, Youth in India Project, International Institute for Population Sciences, Govandi Station Road, Deonar, Mumbai-400 088" with their request for fellowship along with up to date resume, attested copies of degrees and testimonials, birth certificate mark sheets, published research articles, certificate of experience, etc.
The Selection Committee will have Director, IIPS as Chairperson, two Project Coordinators from IIPS, One from Population Council, New Delhi and one Senior faculty member of the Institute as nominated by Director. Application should reach to Youth office by January 28, 2008.
Nature of Assistance available:
The candidate selected for the post-doctoral fellowship would be given Rs.20,000/- per month as fellowship for a period of one year.
In addition, a candidate will also be eligible for a contingency grant of Rs.50,000/- during the period of fellowship.
Procedure for Release of grant:
Fellowship would be paid every month after certification from the mentor (Coordinator of the project). The contingency grant will be available on actual expenditure with prior approval of the mentor as per the rules and regulations of the Institute. The candidate
may spend money on item like Computer Stationery, travel to attend seminar, field work etc. TA/ DA will be paid as per the rule of IIPS under the externally funded project.
Monitoring the Progress and Final Output
The progress will be monitored by the mentor. The candidate has to submit a quarterly report of the work. At the end, candidate has to submit full bound report, and present a paper in a student, faculty seminar at the IIPS. Candidate is also required to send at least
two papers for publication to any Journal during the period of fellowship.
Cancellation of Award
The fellowship is liable to cancellation, in case of:
- Misconduct
- Unsatisfactory progress of research work
- Candidate is later found ineligible
