An Evening In All Its Glory
- Deep from the Soul -
K. Radhakumar *
Maybe
The night is always darkest
Just before the dawn.
Maybe not
But disturbed I am.
I do not know if
I am looking at the setting sun
Or the setting sun is looking at me.
Perhaps, the two are one.
The slow pace of my life in the country
Is quickened by the setting sun
And I see withered leaves falling
Like flies in the breeze.
I look back on my childhood!
Ah, I can remember my childhood
As if it were yesterday.
Suddenly life seems short
And looks sweet in the evening
Spreading out in the garden
In all its glory
And conducting itself
With grace and dignity.
I wish I could grow
Few plants of evening primroses
In my little kitchen garden
Before the evening star is seen
In the western sky.
