An Early Bird
- Deep from the Soul -
K. Radhakumar *
The sun wakes up at dawn
And sees a wonderful world.
Ah, there is no place like it.
The next day
The sun wakes up in the morning
And sees a flower in full bloom.
What a beauty!
The sun makes advances
And in no time they are friends.
Birds sing
On seeing smiling schoolgirls
In bright uniforms.
The third day is a different day.
The sun wakes up
And finds himself in an orphanage.
He has no chance – no chance at all
To be welcomed into this world
By his parents
For reasons best known to the creator
Of the circumstances he is in,
If there be one.
Is there a soul
Who is not born of parents?
He often dreams of his parents.
The game on the fourth day is washed out,
Completely washed out.
No sun is seen
And the sky wears an other worldly look.
On the fifth day,
The sun takes his friend to her grave
And prays with other mourners.
May her soul rest at peace.
One life is not enough,
Not enough.
Age is finally telling on him
And he looks in the sky.
The sun is visibly pale
And the last rays lack teeth.
The sixth day of the week is over.
Why so soon!
