Ahongbam Bemthoi Chanu
Ahongbam Bemthoi Chanu was born on January 10, 1984 at Anuwa Manung in Cachar district of Assam. She was born to Ahongbam Joybidya Singh and Ahongbam Subhasini Devi. Her father Joybidya Singh is serving as Pastor of Singerbond Baptist Church, Lakhipur. Bemthoi is married to Okram Prasanta Singh on 30th April, 2014. Her husband is a Guwahati based RTI activist. She is presently staying at Rajgarh in Guwahati City.
Bemthoi Chanu has a younger sister Ahongbam Thaba Chanu who is presently working as an advocate in Gauhati High Court. Her only younger brother Ahongbam Johny Singh works in the Indian Army.
Ahongbam Bemthoi Chanu is one of the very few among the Manipuris residing in Assam who cracked the Assam Civil Service Examination conducted by Assam Public Service Commission. She secured overall 59th position in the Assam Civil Service Examination 2015. The result was declared on June 30, 2016.
During her studies while staying at her home in Barak valley, Bemthoi was associated with various students activities, She was the General Secretary of Progressive Students' Alliance of Barak Valley, headquartered at Lakhipur.
Bemthoi took participation in various students welfare programmes as a student leader during her Graduation period in Nehru College, Pailapool, Cachar. She was the editor of Nehru College Magazine. Besides, she was associated various extra-curricular activities.
She passed her HSLC Examination in third division from Assapalli English School, Fulertal, Lakhipu under Secondary Board of Assam (SEBA). She completed her twelvth standard from Nehru Higher Secondary School, Pailapool, Lakhipur under Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) in 2003. She passed BA (English Honours) by securing second class from Nehru College, Pailapool under Assam University, Silchar in 2006. She passed MA in English securing First class second position from Gauhati University in 2009.
