After the Class XII board exams : For the parents/guardians
- The Sangai Express Editorial :: May 30 2015 -
It is that time of the year again. A scenario which Manipur has been witnessing year after year for decades.
With the Council of Higher Secondary Examinations, Manipur (COHSEM), Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) and the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) announcing the results of the Class XII examinations, the days of ‘waiting’ may be over for parents, guardians and the students themselves but on the flip side this could also mean the beginning of anxious days.
For students who have cracked the pre-medical and pre-engineering exams, it may be a different case, but not all students take Science at the Plus 2 level and not all students will crack the pre-medical and pre-engineering tests.
Given the sorry state of college education here coupled with an environment that does not exactly encourage the students to explore their minds, it is not surprising to see thousands of students going outside to pursue their higher education.
Nothing wrong as such, but when the need to go out for higher education is dictated by the lack of good colleges here then it is definitely something to be worried about.
The Government does not seem concerned at all and for the moneyed parents this may not be an issue. But not all parents are well off and this period certainly becomes a time of anxiety.
A point which has been repeated numerous times in this column.
Who has given a thought to the plight of the parents and guardians who have to walk the extra mile to meet the educational needs of their children and wards ?
No one it seems, least of all the Government and the numerous pressure groups which have never hesitated in playing around with the academic future of the students.
The push factor is great. It is the Government, the people and the numerous pressure groups here which have created this push factor.
In line with such a reality, thousands of students must have started lining up for destinations outside Manipur.
This comes with a price, a heavy price for numerous parents and guardians.
Wishing to give the best for their children and wards, parents and guardians are sure to walk the extra mile to ensure that at least their children receive something that come close to education.
Good that parents, guardians and elders have come to the realisation it is education which can be the best leveller but the important point is how many of the young students actually understand this reality ?
Will going outside for studies mean greater freedom to do as they please without learning anything substantial ?
This query is being raised particularly for the young students who will be going out to prepare for the future.
Time for parents, guardians and elders too not to exert too much pressure on the young children with their expectations but to let them explore their own minds and tap their talents.
Like anything else education too comes with a price but it is a price which parents and elders are more than ready to pay.
The important question is whether the young students are ready to reciprocate or not.
The future belongs to the young students and it is only right that they realise this and accordingly conduct themselves.
