Application form for Session 2007-2008

Applications are invited for admission to the following courses in the Teaching Departments of the University for the session 2007-2008. Number of seats is given in brackets for each course.

Details governing all aspects of admission to various courses, reservation of seats for SC/ST/Physically Handicapped/Sports and other categories are provided in the P.U. Calendar & Handbook of Information and Rules for Admission.

All candidates must submit their application forms for admission in the concerned department(s) by the specified dates irrespective of the date of declaration of results of the qualifying examination or/ and entrance test.

i) B.E.: Chemical (65+15*), Food Technology (20+6*), Biotechnology (63+10*), Electronics & Communication Engg. (63+10*), Information Technology (63+10*), Computer Science & Engg. (63+10*), Mechanical Engg. (63+10*), Electrical & Electronics Engg. (63+10*).

The admissions to B.E. will be made on the basis of AIEEE conducted by CBSE, New Delhi. Counselling for admission to B.E. will be done at the Law Auditorium, P.U. For brochure, admission form and other details, office of the Director, Punjab Engg. College, Chandigarh be contacted.

There are Entrance tests for Admission to courses at Sr. Nos. (ii) to (xi) conducted by the University in May and June, 2007).

ii) B.Pharm.: (40+15«)

iii) M.C.A.: Dept. of Computer Science & Applications, P.U., Chandigarh (30+10*+2**), Regional Centre , Muktsar: (18+10*+2**).

Note: Candidates desirous of seeking admission to MCA at the PURC, Muktsar should apply on the Admission Form of the Centre. Complete Form should reach the Co-ordinator, Joint Admission Committee, Committee Room of Chemistry Department, Panjab University, Chandigarh. Advt. about availability of Forms etc. will be issued by them separately.

iv) M.Tech : Instrumentation (10+3 SC/ST+8*), Microelectronics (10+3 SC/ST+8*), Nanoscience & Nanotechnology (10+3 SC/ST+5*).

v) LL.B. (150+60*) (Morning) + (150) (Evening), LL.M. (20+5*), Swami Sarvanand Giri, P.U. Regional Centre (Hoshiarpur) : LL.B. (60+15*), B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) 5 year Integrated Course (60+15*), Regional Centre, Ludhiana: LL.B. (63+10*) PURC, Muktsar LL.B. (50+10*) .

Note: The candidate seeking admission for LL.B. 3-years degree Course at the P.U. Regional Centre, Ludhiana & Muktsar should apply to the Director of the Centre on a separate application form available with the office of the Director. Advertisement to this effect will be issued by them separately.

vi) M.B.A.(Executive) (35+6 for Defence Sponsored Officers), M.Com. (E-commerce) (20), M.A. English (125+15*+6@), M.A. (Education) (25), M.Ed (General) (25+5*), M.Ed. (Guidance & Counselling) (25), M.Ed. (Educational Technology) (25), M.Ed. (through Correspondence Studies, for in-service teachers only. Specimen of Employment Certificate is available in the HBI-2007) (150), Master of Journalism and Mass Communication (2 yr. course) (40+10*).

vii) Master of Physical Education (M.P.Ed) (25+5*), Bachelor of Physical Education (B.P.Ed.)(25+5*).

viii) M.Sc. (2-year course) : Human Genomics (15), Environment Science (20+10*), Solid Waste Management (15+5*)

ix) Centre for Emerging Areas in Science and Technology:
MBA (Biotechnology) (11+4*), M.Sc. ( 2 Year Course): Medical Physics (10+2*), Nuclear Medicine (10+2*), System Biology and Bioinformatics (10+2*) (on merit basis), Masters Course in Public Health (10+5*+5 in-service/nominated) (on merit basis).

x) M.Sc. (Hons. School) : The students who have passed B.Sc. (Hons.School) from P.U. are eligible for admission to M.Sc. (Hons.School) in the corresponding subject without taking Entrance Test. Available/additional seats for eligible students for admission to M.Sc. (Hons.School) Ist year in the following subjects, will be on the basis of entrance test:
Biochemistry (5*), Biotechnology (4+2*), Botany (20+5*), Chemistry (10+10*), Computer Science & Applications (10+5*), Mathematics (30+5*), Microbiology (5*), Physics (40+10*) and Zoology (10+5*).

xi) M.E. (Electronics and Communication Engg.) (15+5*), M.E. (Information Technology) (15+5*).

xii) M.B.A. (at P.U. Regional Centre Ludhiana) (50+10*). The candidates who have appeared in CAT- 2006 conducted by IIMs on 19th November,2006 are eligible to apply for Ludhiana. For the candidates, who have earlier applied to UBS, it is compulsory to apply again.

The Application form can be downloaded from our webside: www.ubschandigarh.org , and submitted alongwith a DD for Rs. 1000/- (Rs 500/- for SC/ST candidates) in favour of The Registrar, Panjab University, Chandigarh payable at Chandigarh.

The candidates should also attach photocopy of CAT-2006 SCORE CARD and CAT ADMIT CARD. The application forms should reach the Chairman , UBS, Chandigarh latest by 5th June 2007 by 1.30.p.m.

The following Courses at Sr. Nos. xiii) to xiv) will have an Aptitude/ Admission Test conducted by the department concerned :

xvii) M.Lib. & Information Science (Two year Integrated Course) (30+8*)

xviii) M.Sc. (Hons. School): Anthropology (20+5*), Biophysics (7+5*), Geology (25+5*)

xix) Master's Courses : Statistics (30+5*), Ancient Indian History, Culture & Archaeology (40), Defence and National Security Studies (30 + 5 Serving Defence Personnel), Economics (115+5*), French (15), Geography (40+4*), German (10), Hindi (60), History (50), Panjabi (60+10*), Philosophy (35), Political Science (60), Psychology (50+5*), Public Administration (55+5*), Sociology (60+5*), Urdu (30), Women's Studies (15+3*).

xxiv) Postgraduate Diploma Courses: Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems (8+3*+2 for Geography teachers in Panjab University/affiliated colleges).

xxv) Post-M.Sc. Course in Accelerator Physics : (10).

xxvi) Post M.A. Diploma Courses in Department of Psychology : Professional Counselling and Psychotherapy (15+5*), Psychological Testing (15+5*).

xxvii) Institute of Educational Technology and Vocational Education: B.A. Hons. (Education) B.Ed. (85+15*)

Department of Evening Studies:

B.A. Part I : 300 , B.Com. Part I : (70)
M.A. Part I : English (80), Economics (60), History (60), Political Science (80), Punjabi ( 60 ).

Admission is open to such candidates who submit a proof of their employment in the form of a certificate from the employer/ or a certificate by self that the candidate is self-employed.

Seats in undergraduate subjects are also limited. Students are, therefore, advised to fill in subjects (in various groups) according to their preference. Final allocation will be done in order of merit.

Ph.D. Entrance Test
Enrolment to Ph.D. in the Faculties of Arts, Commerce & Business Management, Education, Science, Languages, Laws Design &Fine Arts, Pharmaceutical Sciences is based on Entrance Test except for certain categories approved by the Syndicate.

The Aptitude Entrance Test for M.Phil and Ph.D is the same. If Entrance Test qualified candidates would be interested to join M.Phil. programme in any Teaching Departments approved for the purpose, they would be allowed to do so.

* Seats for Foreign Nationals/ PIO (Persons of Indian Origin)/ NRI/ NRI Sponsored/Industry Sponsored Candidates.
** Seats for those who have passed UGC approved vocational subject for three years at undergraduate level.
« Seats for Foreign Nationals/ PIO/NRI/ NRI Sponsored/ Pharmaceutical Industry/ Allied Industry Sponsored candidates.
@ For students who have passed B.A. with functional English.

The inter-se merit of candidates seeking admission under the categories * & «, will be based on their score in (i) the Entrance Test (if they are in India) or (ii) SAT -II/ GRE/ GMAT (whichever relevant) and (iii) other scores as applicable.

The foreign candidates shall have to comply with visa and any other requirements prescribed by the Govt. of India and Panjab University, Chandigarh from time to time. Sponsored candidates shall have to submit sponsorship certificate from the sponsor in the approved format.

Handbook of Information and Rules for Admission-2007 can be obtained in cash (Rs. 300/-) at the State Bank of India Extension Counter, Panjab University, Administrative Block, Sector 14, Chandigarh during banking hours and by Post (Rs.360/-) from the Manager, Publication Bureau, P.U., Chandigarh - 160 014 against account payee Bank Draft drawn in favour of the Registrar, Panjab University, payable at Chandigarh.

(The Applicants for the Ist year of any course are advised to purchase a copy of Handbook of Information to acquaint themselves with the Rules and Regulations and other details of the Course).

Candidates desirous of applying for admission to University teaching departments for the session 2007-2008 can download admission form from P.U.Website www.puchd.ac.in free of cost. However, those finally admitted, will be charged Rs. 30/-as cost of admission form along with admission fees.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

I. Application Form for Admission complete in all respects should be submitted to the Chairperson of the Department concerned.

II. The candidates who have applied for the Entrance Test for Courses under OCET-2007 must submit a separate Admission Form to the concerned department after the Entrance Test, irrespective of their result in Entrance Test.

Candidates seeking admission to a course under reserved category of sports should also submit a photocopy of the complete admission form (with self attested original photograph) to the Deputy Director, Physical Education, Nehru Sports Complex (Gymnasium Hall), Panjab University, Chandigarh-160014. The candidates are required to appear for trial in a proper sports kit along with their original sports certificates on University Grounds on 4.7.2007 at 9.00 a.m. Presence of candidate in the field at appointed time is mandatory. No separate intimation will be sent.

1. All Courses (Other than 2 & 3 below ) : 29.6.2007 5.00 p.m.
2. Certificate/ Diploma Courses : 23.7.2007 5.00 p.m.
3. M.Ed. Courses : 3.8.2007 5.00 p.m.
4. M.Phil/Ph.D Entrance : Test Date would be announced shortly

Notes: 1. Candidates who have appeared at the qualifying examination but whose results are awaited may also apply by the stipulated date. Admission would be considered as per admission criteria given in the Handbook of Information-2007 on each course.
2. Panjab University shall not take any responsibility for any delay in receipt of application form sent through post, courier or any other means or for loss in transit of the Application Form.
3. For admission to the Correspondence Courses A separate advertisement (except M.Ed. Part-1 Course) will be issued by the Deptt. of Correspondence Studies, Panjab University, Chandigarh.
