The program provides trans-disciplinary perspectives and analytical tools for communicating about problems of sustainability. It will help you understand the cultural and political dimensions of consumption and resource use, how perceptions of environment and economy differ in time and space, and how environmental problems are distributed globally.
It will enhance your ability to: Understand how environmental problems are generated, interpreted, and negotiated in different cultural and historical contexts. Distinguish between natural, cultural, and political aspects of sustainability issues, and to discuss the relative significance of these aspects in specific contexts. Communicate across boundaries separating disciplines, cultural traditions, or business interests, politics, and social movements.
