Activism against Gender based Violence at Bishnupur
Women Action for Development along with IRDC (Integrated Rural Development Centre) organized one day awareness campaign on "Gender, Reproductive Health & legal mechanism of Women" in connection with 16 days of Activism against Gender Based violence under the theme: "UNITE! Activism to End Violence Against Women & Girls" at Sunusiphai Awang Community Hall, Bishnupur District, on 6th December, 2022.
The program was attended by Mrs. Sobita Mangsatabam, Secy. WAD, Mr. T.Shadishkanta Sharma, Secy. YFPHR, and Mrs. Th. Helena CHO, HWC Phubala as the presidential members and was attended by around 100 participants.
Mrs. Sundari, Secy. IRDC delivered Welcome & Keynote, she says that it's privileged of their leikai to have this type of program as there were increasing numbers of violence against women & children in Manipur.
Mr. T. Shadishkanta, Secy, YFPHR spoke on basic legal rights such as POCSO Act & Child Marriage Prohibition Act. He says that all the citizens including youths are in high time to know basic legal knowledge & mechanisms in order to bring justice immediately and to prevent the youths from becoming accused due to lack of knowledge.
He further appeals the participants not to encourage child marriage in our society and urge to report immediately to Child helpline no. 1098. He further express that it will not be possible to curb the issue of Violence against women & children without the participation of youth, so he urge the youth's participant to come forward to learn and contribute to stop violence against women and children.
Mrs. Sobita Mangsatabam, interacted with the women's participant in an informal discussion, to let them speak out their grievance and violence against women & children faced by them in their families & localities. She urges every participant to unite and join hand to fight the increasing Violence against women & children and not to stay silent in any case.
Mrs. Helena spoke on the topic "Reproductive health of women". She says that women & adolescence girls need to aware about the reproductive health. She urges the participants, especially women & girls to come forward at the Health & Wellness center to attend various awareness and to solve their issue regarding family planning & health problem. She further urges to use protection if necessary, to avoid various Sexually transmitted diseases and unplanned pregnancy.
The participants of the program express gratitude to the organizer and urge to organize this type of program in future engaging more youth and men participants to end violence against women and children in the state.
