The Manipur Cycle Club (MCC) would like to appreciate the honorable Chief Minister of Manipur Mr. Okram Ibobi’s decision on the 7th Kangla day to restrict the plying of all vehicles inside Kangla. We believe this is a progressive position and we encourage the authorities concern to urgently implement it. This has come along at the same time when this Cycle Club is endorsing a drive to transform the historical Kangla fort a carbon free zone by introducing cycles on rent for use inside Kangla and few rickshaws for helping elderly and differently abled person to visit culturally significant sites.
Meanwhile, in the midst of the landmark yearly celebration of the Sangai Tourism Festival 2011, the Manipur Cycle Club which is also organizing a cycle tour to Keibul Lamjao and many other events as part of the festival is highly perturbed by the non-availability of cycle parking in the festival premise. MCC members and many others have found that there is no cycle parking and had to return back without witnessing this event and few others have to take the risk of parking at their risks.
While we would like to encourage people to cycle down to the venue and witness this grand festival, but much to the disappointment of the club, we are informed that there are no cycle parking space created for this events even though parking space for cars and bikes surrounds the venue. Manipur Cycle Club urges the festival organizer to immediately create parking space just for cycles so that this event will be a mark departure from the previous ones and thus creating an examples for others to follow.
