A Tribute to Sharmila |

Sharmila, the wonder girl, who has been launching fast unto death agitation for a cause, will complete two years on November 2. She started her fast on November 2 in 2000. The family members initially objected to her fast. Later much later they realized that she was different. She is born to save humanity. Like Jesus the apostle of peace and Bapu, who used ahimsa as a weapon to fulfill his cherished dream of national independence she observed things properly before she began her fast unto death agitation. This feat she has shown to the people of the State is humanly impossible. Her courage, spirit and carelessness about survival made her available for such great task. She also knows the Government we are having in the State will never be able to fulfill her demand. Nevertheless she wants the Government to show the commitment to fulfill her demand. That gesture is not seen. Who will lift the controversial act if the entire people of the State do not demand for its removal? Sharmila has shown where lies the path to peace. Is the time yet to arise for all to realize that a lone girl is fasting alone? Let us appeal to her to stop the fast. Or else let us follow the path to which she had gone. Like the great soul, who fought for the cause for which they were born, she confided to her family members that she does not belong to the family only. She also knows that the Government will at last succumb to her pressure. Sharmila is really great she has attained the status of living goddess. She tells the family members that she will dine together with her old mother, who is weeping daily. Like the mother of great sons and daughter she too is brave. She says I do not care whether she survives or die she had made herself available for such an uphill task. She has to face the consequences. History will not pardon the present generation if she dies without seeing fulfillment of her in this rotten society. She also talks about ever widening gap between poor and moneyed men. Killing is rampant. Lawlessness has permeated everywhere. Jungle law has descended in Manipur. Let us do something to see the arrival of the day when she will live peacefully. Let us show solidarity with her by fasting on the day she began her fast. So that she will feel the delectation of seeing the masses following her on the path she has chosen. She must feel proud of seeing the masses behind her. Let us tell her “we know you are fighting for humanity for the people living in the state.” Even the devils would have melted their hearts on seeing the condition and spirit of Sharmila. The Government has to think over the matter seriously. Sharmila has shown the path to peace; try to go together with her. Peace is not far away.
