A Recurring Nightmare
K. Radhakumar *
My primary concern: to live.
You know I am an ordinary person.
In the battlefield of life
I come into contact with outside forces
Violent storms;
I can feel a fierce heat of the sun.
Too much of rain this year
And my plan has been rained off.
I see the twin towers razed to the ground
Before my own very eyes –
Modern technology has made me watch it
Like I watch a film
And I am disillusioned.
Drones attack terrorists
Hiding in another country
Sovereignty!
International relations!
My tragedy is other people
Their tone of voice
Attitude to life
Philosophy …
How can I live
Without bothering others
Yet perform my duties as a social being?
This open-eyed disillusionment
Ah, this recurring nightmare!
