A Poem for the Birds
K. Radhakumar *
Sorry, people, this poem is for the birds
Strictly for the birds.
I have taken to writing
Like a duck to water.
Early in the morning
My love leans over and whispers
Why bother to write?
My daddy is dead and gone.
My daddy who was a man
With a genuine love of literature!
After the loss,
I write him many poems.
The dead keep quiet.
What do I write for then?
For nobody. For myself.
Why do I write?
To date,
It is rather a difficult question.
Daddy,
There are some persons
Who could write great poems.
I wish I could write one
And dedicate it to you
I would like to write a poem
The mother of all poetry
And not an end in itself
But a bridge between memory and hope.
I have not yet written the poem
I would like to.
No, not yet.
Early in the morning
I am in the arms of my love
And there is poetry
In all my love’s gestures
