Chiangmai, April 10: The international correspondents of the US based
ABC News interviewed the lonesome but committed woman at her school, Earth
Rights International, in Chiangmai, Thailand. Kim, who belongs to the
Kuki ethnic group, was approached by the media personnel for its nightline
edition on the 30th March 2005.
When the ABC News asked a brief background on Kuki people, Kim began
with the untold miseries that the Kukis had to suffer during the 1967
Khadawmi Operation.
It is my sincere appeal to humanitarian organizations and the
government of India to open doors for Internally Displaced Persons of Burma,
particularly from the Kuki areas, on humanitarian grounds, appealed Kim.
Any dramatic change is unlikely unless all human rights organizations,
armed ethnic groups, political organizations and Earth Rights organizations
come to work together, commented Kim when asked about the restoration of
democracy in Burma. Kim is one of the leading members of Kuki Women
Human Rights Organization (KWHRO), based in India.
Kim, also known as Ki Kim, has been in Thailand for a couple of years
to attend training on a wide range of issues pertaining to which Burma has
been plagued with for decades. We have intensive classes and trainings on
human rights and environmental issues, said Kim to Kukiforum News.
Instructors from different countries including the United States of America are
helping potential leaders and representatives from various ethnic groups of
Burma.
