A Blur on the Horizon
- Deep from the Soul -
K. Radhakumar *
My small boat sways in the wind;
It looks so forlorn,
Floating there in the waters of life.
The wind has dropped
And the sea is calm;
I remain sitting on the edge of the boat
With legs swinging over the side.
What are the words of the song
I am humming away to myself?
Suddenly the wind has changed direction
And is getting up
(What a change!)
A gust of wind
Tries to carry away the small boat and i...
I get into a panic
When my boat is dancing about the waves;
The unfathomable depths of the waters of life
And the skies above
Seem to stretch into infinity.
The oars are dipped into the water
And a rapid manoeuvre bursts from nowhere.
Far away from the beach
I am all alone and feel lonely
And in the melee of sounds and images of loneliness
I can hear myself speaking with a quiet voice:
Please keep it afloat.
Please don’t let it happen.
Who am I talking to?
Afraid I am lest it should be sunk
And a friend is greatly missed.
My children!
Are they my children?
I only wish I knew.
My children – they are lives
And were unmanifest before they were born;
At this moment in time
They are manifest here in this world.
Before the curtain rises
Heavy breathing is all the audience can hear
And I can feel a surge of excitement.
The lights dim as the curtain rises:
A presence felt of beads of sweat
Locked in a compromising situation,
The climax of selfless action,
Intimate but unattached,
Action not linked to goal,
A spiritual experience in the air
And the curtain comes down.
O my children!
My four children
All have different personalities.
These time will annihilate
But not their individualities –
These will live for all times to come.
