AFSPA and drug trafficking confront Manipur

According to the political resolution on Manipur, it was noted that the imposition of AFSPA, both in the hill and valley areas of Manipur has not been able to contain insurgency, Dr Nara said. The CPI National Council resolution on Manipur maintained that on contrary, number of insurgency groups has increased from hardly five in 1980 to more than 35 till today, and that around 5000 people have been killed and many have been severely tortured by the security forces, he said.
In the resolution, the CPI National Council demanded immediate withdrawal of AFSPA from Manipur and also demanded political dialogue with insurgents for durable political solution.
